Safety Helmet Shopping

The most important piece of motorcycle or electric scooter safety gear is a helmet. Whether you ride a motorcycle, an electric scooter, or an electric scooter moped, it's important for all riders to protect their heads.
When shopping for a helmet you will find that there are about four different types to pick and choose from.

    •    The first type of helmet is the Shorty Helmet, also known as the half helmet and is the simplest form of helmet for a rider to get. They are basically made more for fashion for any rider riding a custom built bike or highway cruiser. They have no sides or chin protection.

    •    The next is the open face helmet which is basically designed to protect the ears and face but not the chin. Also known as the three quarter helmet.

    •    The Motorcycle Hybrid Helmet is great for riders who wear glasses because it allows the rider to slide the chin portion of the helmet upwards.

    •    Then there is the Motorcycle Full Face Helmet, because of the protection not only around the ears and face but around the chin as well but without proper ventilation they tend to fog up and get hot.

To avoid penetration by sharp objects the best helmets are casted as one whole piece. This is to spread any impact as evenly as possible in the event of a crash.
Helmets usually have a comfort liner in them. It's the padding that rests against your head. It should be comfortable, breathe well, and should be able to absorb your sweat. Some helmets allow you to take out the comfort liner for washing or replacing it with a more comfortable liner.
When shopping for a comfortable helmet it's always best to try one on and wear it for about five minutes to check for any form of irritation points. When you decide on a helmet for comfort, just make sure you always begin with a good fit. When taking it off try to get in front of a mirror to see if there are any red marks on your face.
It's always a good idea to inquire about the helmet safety standards at your local Department of Motor Vehicle Office where you live because really cheap motorcycle or electric scooter helmets sometimes tend to side step some of the safety testing standards.
In a lot of states, insurance companies are very picky. Make sure your helmet meets all the safety standards for riding. If it doesn't, they might give you a bad time possibly in the form of a higher monthly insurance premium. Ouch!
Ventilation is important if you don't like having your visor fog up while riding, especially if you're wearing a full face helmet. If you have a ventilation system where have openings in the front for air to come in and openings in the back where you have air flow going out it will cut down on the wind noise considerably. The more aerodynamic your helmet is, the less wind noise you will have. If you want less wind noise find a helmet with more vents in it.
In closing, here are just a few more suggestions when you shop for a motorcycle or electric scooter moped helmet.

    •    Check for anti-fog and anti-scratch treatment on the helmet of your choice. and…

    •    always remember a lighter helmet will always be more comfortable than a heavier one.

    •    Check out the chin strap to see if it's too long, it will hit you in your chin while you're wearing your helmet so you want to make sure it's tucked away somewhere while riding.
